This is our first buggy, currently parked at my in-laws` house.
Meet Our New Baby!
This is our first dune buggy. We`ve been going out to Gordon`s Well with my brother-in-law and his family for two seasons now, and we`re hooked. We`re also tired of having to bum rides off Todd... we needed our own buggy!
So, now that I and my wife are fully established in our careers, we decided to take the plunge. I knew I wanted a VW-powered, short-travel car for our first rail, since I needed to keep the cost down, and also because simplicity is a good thing. As an engineer, I really appreciate the simple elegance of Dr. Porsche`s engine design.
So, we searched craigslist, ATV trader, the local fishwrap, all the usual suspects. We looked at several cars, and most of them had issues that I didn`t want to get involved with on my first buggy. This one was at the top of our price range, but had no frame issues, a one-season motor built by the owner, (an old VW mechanic), with full documentation and a bunch of spare parts and extras.
We can`t wait for desert season! My 3 year old son wants to sit in it every time we go to Grandma`s house, and I get a big grin whenever I look at our new toy.
